Mattar Paneer is another one of those Indian dishes which is nice and rich, and full of flavor. You will find it on any Indian restaurant menu, but why waste money eating out when you can make it at home. Here’s how:

Ingredients:

  • paneer, cubed
  • 1.5 cups peas
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1.5 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 5 broken cashews
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • whole garam masala
  • 2 chopped green chilis
  • .5 tsp turmeric
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • .5 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tbsp kasoori methi
  • .5 tsp garam masala
  • salt to taste
  • 1/4-1/2 cup cream
  • oil for cooking
  • water for thinning

To Make:

In a pan, heat some oil. Add the whole garam masala, cashews, and cumin seeds, saute till the cashews are golden brown. Add the onions and cook till slightly golden. Add turmeric and ginger garlic paste. Saute for 1-2 minutes, then add the green chilis and tomatoes. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer for 5 minutes. Put mixture in a blender and puree till smooth.

In the original pan, add the blended sauce, and add water to thin the sauce out to your desired consistency. Add the rest of the spices except for the kasoori methi, and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the paneer, peas, kasoori methi. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes. Finish by adding cream.

Serve with rice or naan or roti.
