Bhutta, Indian Grilled Corn

Bhutta is one of the most simple foods to make, yet it tastes so brilliant. I remember eating bhutta at Juhu Beach in India, and thinking that I could eat this every day. So of course I learned how to make it at home. Of course it doesn’t taste the same as freshly grilled on the beach spicy tangy corn, but it does the trick, and fulfills the craving.

Here is a picture I took of a guy grilling Bhutta at Juhu Beach, Mumbai35498_602123787453_5565843_n

And here is what the bhutta looked like35498_602123797433_5558467_n

I think I came pretty close, considering I am not in India at the beach with the perfect corn grilling contraption.

  • corn on the cob
  • lime
  • red chili powder
  • chaat masala
  • butter (optional)

To Make:

If you are fortunate enough to have a grill, grill the corn on all sides until nice and charred. If you don’t have a grill, you can use your stove, like this:IMG_20130407_204531

Once the corn is done, take a cut lime and rub it all over the corn. Then you can slather it in butter. Or you can skip that step, especially if eating vegan. Then sprinkle with chaat masala and red chili powder. If desired, you can sprinkle salt.

Serve nice and hot!
