This is a pretty easy falafel recipe to make using canned chickpeas. I just pan fried them, but you can deep fry or bake them.

  • 1 can chickpeas, drained
  • 1/2 onion
  • a handful of parsley
  • a handful of cilantro
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds, roasted and ground
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds, roasted and ground
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • flour, optional
  • oil for pan frying

To Make:

Add the ingredients onion through lemon juice, and blend till smooth. IMG_20130411_134643

In a bowl, mash the drained chickpeas. Don’t use a blender for these. Here is a secret. I was having a hard time mashing these…..so I uh, just put them in a ziploc bag and stepped on them a few times. IMG_20130411_135606

Add the blended ingredients to the mashed chickpeas. IMG_20130411_135733

Then add the rest of the ingredients. IMG_20130411_135955

Mix it all together and make patties out of them, or balls if you want. Whatever floats your boat. If they are not forming properly, try adding a little flour, or another egg. IMG_20130411_203842

In a pan, heat the oil to medium high, and fry on both sides till golden brown. IMG_20130411_203951 PicsPlay_1365955055171
