Salmon Burger, Indian Style

I was craving salmon patties the other night, but then I realized that I had some wheat buns from Whole Foods, so I decided to make a salmon burger instead. It was super easy to make, and is a nice alternative to a beef burger. And, it is much better for you! With one can of salmon, I ended up with 6 burgers. So this is a cheap way to feed a family.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of salmon, boneless or pick the bones out
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1-2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • 1/4 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/4 tsp red chili powder
  • salt, to taste
  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 2 tsp besan
  • bread crumbs, for coating
  • oil for saute

To Make:

In a bowl, add all the ingredients except for bread crumbs and mix well. If needed, use another egg for better binding. Shape into burgers. Dip each side in bread crumbs.

Heat around 2 tsp of oil in a pan. Once hot, add the burgers, but don’t overcrowd. Cook on both sides till nice and golden brown.

*I made mine into a burger, topped with red onions and tomato, coriander chutney and spicy ketchup.
