Quick and Simple Vegetarian Keema

Because we mostly eat vegetarian, I am always trying to incorporate soy or “fake meat” into dishes that would typically be cooked with meat. This is a really quick and easy version of keema. Keema is a minced meat dish that is dry, meaning it doesn’t have a liquid curry type sauce.

*It typically is cooked with peas, but for this recipe, I chose to leave the peas out

*Serve with fresh chapatis or naan

*Try adding yogurt

*Can also be cooked with ground beef, lamb, or turkey

  • Packet of Morning Star Veggie Crumbles
  • oil, 2 tbsp
  • salt, to taste
  • onion, half diced finely
  • cumin seeds, 1 tsp
  • green chilis, 1-2 diced
  • dry red chilis, 1-2 broken
  • coriander seeds, 1 tsp
  • coriander powder, 1 tsp
  • cumin powder, 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric, 1/4 tsp
  • garam masala powder, 1/4 tsp
  • ginger garlic paste, 1 tsp
  • red chili powder, 1/4 tsp
  • coriander leaves, 1 tbsp chopped

To Make:

Heat oil in a pan. Once hot, add red chilis, coriander seeds and cumin seeds. Once the seeds crackle, add onions. Sautee till golden brown, then add ginger garlic paste. Stir then add turmeric. Stir, then add veggie crumbles and green chilis, along with dry powder spices. Stir and cook till crumbles are cooked. Add coriander leaves. The whole dish takes less than 20 minutes to cook.
